Dan Kjorsvik explains how he became an owner in horse racing. “My roommate at the time worked at Canterbury and I went to visit him one day in the summer of 2000. It was the first time I was ever at any racetrack and I was hooked immediately. I asked him how the game worked and he referred me to Jamie Ness who was training with his dad at the time and also working at Canterbury. We struck up a friendship and the next year I bought half ownership in two horses from his dad and it progressed from there.”
Dan, who operates a financial planning practice in Minneapolis, says, “I’m fortunate to have a flexible work schedule because it allows me an opportunity to visit the different tracks to watch my horses or just to take in some live racing until Canterbury starts again in May.” Dan usually keeps a stable of somewhere between 10-20 horses that he owns by himself and or in partnerships with Jagger, Inc. and Web Gems Stables. The three main tracks Dan runs his horses at are Canterbury Park, Hawthorne and Tampa Bay Downs.
