Lonnie Arterburn

Arterburn comes from a true multi-generational racing family. His father, Jack Arterburn, was a successful jockey throughout the West, trained for years in Northern California, and is now retired. His mother, Sue, worked at Bay Meadows, his brother Tim also has trained in Northern California, andhis uncle, the late Damon Pollard, was a former leading trainer in Northern California. Lonnie is also the brother-in-law of Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze, North America's all-time winningest jockey, who is married to Arterburn's sister, Tami . Lonnie took out his jockey's license in 1976 and was Northern California's leading apprentice rider in 1977. After retiring as a jockey in 1981he took out his trainer's license in 1983 and trained for more than 20 years in the Bay Area before relocating to central Florida in 2005. His daughter Jamie runs Lonnie's barn at Bowie in Maryland, and daughter Brittany recently became a fulltime jockey, riding at Maryland tracks as well as Delaware Park and Colonial Downs.
