Trainer Jane Cibelli has had an outstanding Tampa Bay Downs 2007 – 2008 season, racking up 16 wins, 20 second-place finishes and 16 thirds from 101 attempts to become the tenth leading trainer in the 2008 race meeting.

Jane Cibelli moved to the United States in 1983 after working with horses in her native United Kingdom.  “I was always interested in horses from the time I was a kid. I rode show jumpers as a teenager. I got into racing when I left high school and galloped horses.  In England you do everything: you gallop, you rub horses, everything.”

Jane Cibelli took out her trainer’s license in 1989; she was a private trainer for several years, and then was an assistant to former Tampa Bay Downs leading trainer Lynne Scace.  Cibelli started training on her own in 1999, and has amassed a successes stable of 30 horses including Sparky, her beloved track pony.  Cibelli says that A Different Tune is her favorite horse because, “I’ve had her since she was two years old, and she just gives me everything she’s got every time I run her. Plus, she’s just a nice horse to be around– a really neat horse.”

Cibelli is a very hands-on trainer who gets started in her barn at 4:30 AM most days. Cibelli says she believes that consistent hard work with horses has been the key to her success. After the close of the Tampa Bay Downs meet, Cibelli will head to MonmouthPark for the summer.  She says that her proudest racing moment came last year when her trainee Whisky Lit captured the Dayton Andrews Dodge Sophomore Sprint Stakes on Florida Cup Day at Tampa Bay Downs last year.  When she’s not on the backstretch Cibelli keeps an interest in personal fitness.
