Thoroughbred Retirement Tampa
Thoroughbred Retirement of Tampa, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the safe retirement, rehabilitation, and adoption of Tampa’s racing Thoroughbreds.
These athletes are valuable assets to their owners and trainers while producing results on the track. As some reach the end of their careers, unforeseen circumstances force decisions to be made to assure their future safety. TROT recognizes the potential and worth that retiring Thoroughbreds offer, and is able to assist them transition to the next phase of their lives. With the support of owners, trainers, and the community we can raise awareness about the importance of Thoroughbred retirement and make a difference in the plight of unwanted horses.
Joshua House
Tampa Bay Downs is proud to support Joshua House, operated by the Children's Home Society of Florida. Since 1992, Joshua House has provided emergency shelter care and residential group care services for abused, abandoned, and neglected. The housing facilities are located in a beautiful country setting just north of Tampa.
Joshua House also cares for teen mothers and their babies.
State child protection authorities place children at Joshua House after removing them from some of the most dysfunctional, violent, and unhealthy living situations in the area. The goal is to heal their wounded bodies and hearts and offer them a consistent, predictable, nurturing environment, where they are guided by well-trained, professional, caring adults -- both staff and volunteers.
The Upper Tampa Bay Education Foundation
The UTB Chamber Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation launched in 2006 to enhance the educational and cultural opportunities for students and educators in elementary, middle and high schools throughout the upper Tampa Bay region. The Foundation currently awards college scholarships annually to graduating seniors selected from Alonso, EastLake, Leto and Sickles high schools, and coordinates Student of the Month and Teacher Recognition programs at ten elementary schools in the region.
Rotary’s Camp Florida
Located in Brandon, Fla., Rotary’s Camp Florida is an 18-acre campground for children with medical, physical, mental and emotional illnesses and challenges. The operation is a joint effort of the 400 Florida Rotary International Clubs.
Rotary’s Camp Florida hosts weekend camps throughout the year, in addition to a summer program. The camp also rents the facility to qualified organizations that can employ their own doctors, child psychologists, program directors and counselors.

Tampa Bay Sports Commission
Tampa Bay Downs proudly supports the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, a private, non-profit, 501c3, charitable corporation that serves the entire Tampa Bay area as the lead organization for bidding on and hosting major amateur sporting events.
The Tampa Bay Sports Commission attracts, promotes and/or organizes major amateur sporting events, and grassroots youth sports programs, that foster the ongoing development and quality of life for the entire Tampa Bay area. Premier events include the 2007 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament and the 2008 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Final Four at St. Pete Times Forum.
The Commission works with area convention and visitors bureaus to provide a wealth of services to potential events and their governing bodies.
Florida Thoroughbred Charities
Tampa Bay Downs is proud to support Florida Thoroughbred Charities, Inc. is the charitable arm of the Florida Thoroughbred industry.
Since 1990, Florida Thoroughbred Charities has raised more than $3 million for charitable organizations within the Thoroughbred industry, Ocala/Marion County and the State of Florida. Organizations which have benefited from fundraising include: 4-H Clubs, Florida Future Farmers of America, Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, Marion Therapeutic Riding Association, Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, Southeastern Youth Fair, the Florida Division of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and the new Florida Horse Park.
Florida Thoroughbred Charities also supports the Marion Cultural Alliance, United Way, Ocala Shrine Club, Disaster Animal Response Team, Interfaith Emergency Services/Feed the Children, Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, American Cancer Society and Royal Dames for Cancer Research, and other organizations.
Scholarship funds and equine and veterinary education programs at Central Florida Community College and the University of Florida Public Education Foundation, and the Marion County/Black Stallion Literacy Project are also supported by Florida Thoroughbred Charities.
